Its name comes from two Sanskrit words: Netra (“eye”) and Tarpana (“nourishment”); hence it means “nourishment of the eye”. Netra Tarpana relieves eye ailments, such as blurry vision, Orbital cellulitis, glaucoma, conjunctivitis and squint eyes. Furthermore, it helps with the aggravation of Vata and Pitta-related illnesses and atrophy of the cranial nerves and inflammation of the cornea, among others.
Netra Tarpana is similar to Hrid and Merudanda Vasthi. The therapist puts a black gram dough around the patient’s eyes and fills it with warm, clarified or herbal-infused ghee. During the 15 to 20 minutes of the session, the patient must keep their eyes in movement. The therapist takes care of maintaining the ghee warm by replacing it constantly.
For all those having a thick frame, specs may find this therapy very useful, as this therapy makes your vision better, clear your eyesight and lower your headache.
