What is Enlarged Prostate?
Enlarged prostate or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a medical condition in which the prostate gland of men is enlarged. To understand it quickly, the prostate is a walnut-sized gland that is mainly responsible for producing seminal fluid in men. But when a prostate gland grows and compresses the urethra, it causes urination problems, and this condition is called enlarged prostate. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or enlarged prostate, is not cancer; it is just a disorder that can be treated and it doesn't raise the risk of prostate cancer.
Increasing age makes this condition more serious if left untreated. According to the World Health Organization, 90% of men over age 85 are affected by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
